The same sky, read at three speeds
The Moon is the fast hand. It changes sign every two and a half days and covers the whole zodiac in a month, which is why it gets blamed for moods and why nobody plans a career around it.
Mercury, Venus, Mars and the Sun are the middle register. They set the tone of a few weeks: the sign the Sun is in names the season, and Mercury turning backwards three times a year is the one piece of astrology that has escaped into ordinary conversation.
Jupiter through Pluto are the slow hand, and they are the reason the second table exists. Pluto spends about two decades in a sign. When two of these meet at an exact angle it happens once in a generation, everyone alive gets it at the same time, and historians tend to have already given the period a name by the time astrologers get to it.
Questions
Where are the planets right now?+
The table above answers it, and it is computed when you open the page rather than served from a cached copy. Positions are worked out for midday London time, which is close enough for everything except the Moon: it covers about half a degree an hour, so by late evening the Moon is already a few degrees further on than the table says.
Why are there no houses here?+
Houses depend on where you were standing and at what minute. This page is the sky itself, which is the same for everyone alive at that moment. Put in a birth time and place and the houses appear, but that is the birth chart calculator's job.
What counts as a slow planet?+
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. They move so little in a day that an aspect between two of them lasts months and gets talked about for years, which is why the second table only watches those five and only within two degrees.
What does the condition column mean?+
Essential dignity, the classical shorthand for how comfortable a planet is in the sign it is in. Domicile is home ground, exaltation is a good guest, detriment and fall are the two awkward ones. Most placements are none of those, and a dash means exactly that.
Can I look at a date in the past?+
Any date from 1900 to 2200. Positions for a past date do not change, so the answer for a day in 1969 is the same today as it was then.
