How to read what comes back
The list of aspects is the part that matters. Each line pairs a moving planet with one of yours, names the angle between them and gives the orb, which is how far off exact it is. A one-degree orb is a loud transit; a five-degree one is background.
Speed decides how long anything lasts. The Moon completes a full circuit in a month and its transits are gone within hours, which is why nobody plans around them. Jupiter takes twelve years and Saturn twenty-nine, so when one of those sits on a natal planet it stays for months and people tend to remember the period afterwards.
The house column, when you have given a birth time, says which area of life the moving planet is crossing. The same Mars transit reads as a fortnight of arguing at work or a fortnight of sorting the house out, depending on which house it is passing through.
Questions
What is a transit?+
A planet where it is now, making an angle to a planet where it was when you were born. The moving one is the transit and the fixed one is yours. Astrologers read the pairing as a period when that part of a life is being pushed on.
How is this different from a horoscope?+
A horoscope is written for a sign, which is a twelfth of everybody. A transit is computed against your own chart, so it depends on your birth date, time and place rather than on your Sun sign alone.
What does «applying» mean?+
The angle is still closing rather than opening. An applying aspect is usually read as the part that has not happened yet; a separating one as the part already working itself out.
Why do the slow planets matter more?+
The Moon crosses a degree in two hours and Pluto takes years. A Saturn or a Pluto transit sits on the same point for months at a time, which is why those get written about and a transiting Moon rarely does.
Do I need my birth time for this?+
For the aspects, no — those are planet to planet and the time barely moves them. For the house overlay, yes: which area of life a transit is crossing depends on the houses, and the houses need the time.
